Climate change, Peak Oil and the depletion of other natural resources, in addition to a rapidly growing world population are setting the scene for an uncertain future of mankind on planet Earth. Meeting the global energy needs in a sustainable manner is undoubtedly one of the most challenging tasks of our time.
Duncan McLaren, Chief Executive of Friends of the Earth Scotland, will be busting the myth that 'the lights will go off' if we switch our electricity supply to 100% renewables.
He will also explain how we could decarbonise our whole economy by at least 50% within the next 20 years, in part by using surplus renewable electricity to power vehicles and heating systems (replacing oil and gas).
Friends of the Earth Scotland commissioned GL Garrad Hassan (the world's largest independent renewable energy consultancy) to carry out a study upon which this scenario for Scotland's future energy supply is based.
